About Stringz Theory:
Stringz Theory is the music of Stringz Mayes- an independent artist, veteran, husband, father, and lifelong observer of the world around him.
Raised in rural West Virginia and shaped by a life that has taken him from the Appalachian hills to the military and Iraq, and through struggles, losses, questions, and second chances, Stringz writes from experience rather than image.
His music lives somewhere between acoustic rap, country, folk, and Appalachian hip-hop, built around an acoustic guitar, a beat, and something worth saying. The songs explore everything from family, war, addiction, division, and personal struggle to spirituality, corruption, freedom, and the uncomfortable questions most people eventually find themselves asking.
Music had been part of his life for years, but he didn't begin seriously recording and releasing his own music until after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. That diagnosis changed his relationship with time. The things he'd been carrying around, stories, questions, anger, memories, beliefs, and things left unsaid, suddenly didn't feel like things that should wait for someday.
So he started recording them. There isn't a character behind Stringz Theory. The rough edges are intentional. The stories are real. And the goal has never been to fit neatly into a genre or tell people what they want to hear.
After years of writing and recording independently, Stringz Theory's latest album "What They Made Us" released on July 4, 2026... a body of work centered on what life, institutions, experience, and the people around us leave behind in who we become.
At its core, Stringz Theory is simple:
Music. Truth. People. Purpose.
No perfect answers.
No manufactured image.
Just one man's perspective, put to music.
Listen for yourself.
